Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about pediatric dental care, scheduling, and treatments.

When should I bring my child for their first dental visit?

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends scheduling your child's first visit when their first tooth erupts or by their first birthday—whichever comes first!

Why are baby teeth important if they fall out anyway?

Primary (baby) teeth are vital for proper chewing, speech development, jaw growth, and holding space for adult teeth. Untreated decay in baby teeth can cause severe pain, infection, and damage to permanent teeth growing underneath.

Are dental X-rays safe for children?

Yes! We use state-of-the-art ultra-low radiation digital X-rays and protective lead aprons with thyroid collars. X-rays allow us to spot hidden cavities between teeth and monitor jaw growth safely.

What insurance plans do you accept?

We accept Texas Medicaid, CHIP, MCNA, DentaQuest, and most major commercial PPO insurance plans (Delta Dental, Cigna, MetLife, Aetna, Humana, etc.). Contact our front desk for an immediate benefit verification.

What should I do if my child knocks out a permanent tooth?

Treat it as a dental emergency! Find the tooth, hold it by the crown (do NOT touch the root), rinse it gently in milk or saline without scrubbing, and place it back in the socket if possible or submerge it in milk. Call us immediately at (956) 854-4146.

How can I prevent cavities in my child's teeth?

Brush twice daily with fluoridated toothpaste, floss daily once teeth touch, limit sugary drinks/snacks, avoid putting infants to bed with juice or milk bottles, and visit us every 6 months for regular cleanings and protective sealants.

Does your practice offer sedation for anxious children?

Yes! We provide Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas), oral conscious sedation, and general anesthesia in a hospital setting for complex needs or severe dental anxiety.
